March 5, 2021
On March 5 at 3PM, ET, EETI member, Dr. Racheida Lewis, and Dr. Trine Fletcher will focus on the struggles of women in engineering during the COVID-19 crisis compared to their male counterparts and at the intersection of race.
This seminar will highlight the challenges women in the United States face when they step into roles that historically ostracized them. This issue is particularly salient in engineering as recent diversity efforts aims for improving gender diversity in the field. However, the global pandemic COVID-19 has revealed that support for women in engineering still has a long way to go. In June 2020, Drs. Racheida Lewis (UGA) and Trine Fletcher (FIU) collected data from over 500 underrepresented students in engineering about how their academic experiences were impacted by COVID-19; at least 150 of participants were women. This talk will focus on the struggles of women in engineering during the COVID-19 crisis compared to their male counterparts and at the intersection of race.
