Important Note about EETI Communications!
Only a select few communications will be sent to the entire CENGR and EETI member base: The initial announcement of programs, forum announcements, and announcements about funding opportunities. For other EETI events (EETIncubator, FLCs, peer mentoring, book clubs, etc.), we will only send communications to those who opt in. You can opt in one of two ways:
- Sign up to be an EETI member, which includes the ability to select which communications you wish to receive. To learn more about EETI membership and how to apply, please follow this link: https://eeti.uga.edu/eeti-membership/
- Email the contact for the event and let them know you wish to receive communications. The appropriate contact is specified in the event description on this page.
These changes have been made to reduce email clutter for EETI non-members, and as part of an effort to make the benefits of EETI membership more clear and transparent. Please email John Morelock (John.Morelock@uga.edu) if you have any questions about these changes!
About EETI
The Engineering Education Transformations Institute (EETI) in the College of Engineering provides a home for the excitement, diverse discussions, and ongoing initiatives in the area of Engineering Education. We focus on building community and shared capacity around the scholarship of teaching and learning that will allow us to improve our own teaching, innovate in our courses and curricula, and conduct empirical investigations to better understand our students’ experiences.
Participants in institute programming include faculty, staff, and students from all schools in the College. We leverage the expertise of our engineering education research faculty to contribute to the shared capacity of the group. Participation in institute activities is open and flexible – everybody is welcome to participate by just being part of the conversation or by getting involved in shared initiatives.
EETI invites all College of Engineering and School of Computing faculty, staff, and graduate students to take advantage of our events and opportunities!
EETI is currently offering the following programming.
Events and Activities
This Semester’s Programming Format
This semester, EETI is trying something new by shifting to entirely in-person operations. We have observed that in-person events are both more lively and allow more equal distribution of participation, and we consider these benefits to be essential to community-building. Zoom access may be available for some events as an accommodation for specific situations. If Zoom is the only way you would be able to attend an event, please contact the organizer of the event (specified on this page) and let them know your situation.
We will still record the forums!
Engineering Education Forums
These interactive meetings bring together faculty, staff, and students across the College and University to share ideas, hear from external presenters, and participate in capacity development activities. Lunch is provided!
The table below details the four forums that are planned for this semester.

If you have any questions about the forum, please email Dr. John Morelock (john.morelock@uga.edu).
EETIncubator
This semester, Dr. John Aliu will host a weekly engineering education research incubator to provide an opportunity for EETI members who are working on a specific idea in engineering education to develop their projects as part of a supportive cohort. EETIncubator sessions will be scheduled based on participants’ availability.
If you are interested in conducting research in engineering education, or attending the EETIncubator, please either (1) apply to be an EETI member and indicate you would like to receive communications about the EETIncubator, or (2) send an email to Dr. John Aliu (john.aliu@uga.edu).
Faculty Learning Community (FLC) on Generative AI in Engineering Education
This academic year, EETI will run an FLC that meets once every three weeks. The topic of this FLC is learning how to leverage generative AI tools to enhance the teaching and learning process in engineering courses. Participants will learn about generative AI tools through the lenses of policy, ethics, course design, learning activities, assessment, and access. If you are interested in this opportunity, please fill out the application below. To ensure space for discussion, participation will be limited to 20 participants!

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Dr. John Morelock (john.morelock@uga.edu).
EETI Book Club
This semester, Dr. Alison Banka is excited to facilitate a book club for the book, Grading for Growth, by David Clark and Robert Talbert. The first meeting will be in late August or early September, and the book club will meet 4-5 times this semester (approximately monthly.) The meetings will be scheduled according to the availability of those who express interest. For questions, please email Dr. Banka at alison.banka@uga.edu.
If you are interested to join the book club, please fill out this scheduling poll by August 29: https://forms.gle/MMWciY2rp8zkz5kG8
EETI Library Program
On the north wing of Driftmier’s second floor, we have a shelf filled with books related to engineering education, and College of Engineering faculty, staff, and students are free to check them out (using the check-out form on the shelf) or, for specific books, take a copy to keep. EETI is interested to continue building this library—if there is an engineering-education-related book you would like us to add, please email Dr. John Morelock (john.morelock@uga.edu) to request it!
Funding Opportunities
Engineering & Computing Education Conference Travel Fellowships
Our travel fellowship applications will be opening early this year to accommodate a new conference! We are cycling the Frontiers in Education off the list this year, and adding the computing-focused SIGCSE Technical Symposium. These fellowships will fully fund successful applicants to attend one of three conferences:
- The 2026 American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Annual Conference: June 22-25 in Montreal, Canada
- The 2026 ASEE Southeast Section Conference: March 9-11 in Starkville, MS
- The 2026 SIGCSE Technical Symposium: February 18-21 in St. Louis, MO
All College of Engineering (and School of Computing) faculty, staff, and graduate students are welcome to apply. Priority consideration will be given to lecturers, professors of practice, first-time attendees, and applicants presenting at their conference of choice. The application process will be released and announced to the college in late October or early November, with decisions being released by the end of the semester. Please direct any questions to Dr. John Morelock at john.morelock@uga.edu.
2026-27 Dean’s Engineering Education Fellowship for Ph.D. Students
The Dean’s Engineering Education Fellowship (DEEF) is an annual award sponsored by the Engineering Education Transformations Institute (EETI) that fully funds up to 2 College of Engineering (and School of Computing) Ph.D. students to engage with engineering education research and/or practice for one year. The purpose of the fellowship is to provide an avenue for engineering graduate students who want to cultivate and maintain a focus on education as part of their future careers to develop as teachers and educational scholars.
This year, the Dean’s Fellowship has two tracks to which students can apply:
- The Traditional Track – Fellows will spend Fall 2025 doing engineering education research alongside an engineering faculty member, and then spend Spring 2026 teaching as an instructor of record. This track is intended for students who want a strong grounding in both the practice and scholarship of teaching and learning. If a fellow has not yet taken ENED 7010 (Preparing to Be an Effective Engineering Educator, a prerequisite for teaching as an instructor of record), they may do so alongside their educational research work during Fall 2025.
- The Teaching-Focused Track – Fellows will spend both Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 teaching as an instructor of record. This track is intended for students who want to focus on the practice of teaching and learning, and who would like a chance to apply learning from their first teaching experience to grow through a second teaching experience. Because ENED 7010 is required to teach as an instructor of record and is only taught in the Fall, fellows must have taken the course during or prior to Fall 2024 to be eligible for this track.
To apply for an award, The call for applications will be sent to all Engineering and Computing graduate students in mid September. Please direct any questions to Dr. John Morelock at John.Morelock@uga.edu.
Research and Innovation Grants
Applications for the EETI 2025-26 Research and Innovation Grants are open now! The purpose of these grants is to promote a thriving ecosystem of engineering education at UGA. This program is intended to support a diversity of research, instructional approaches, and other innovations that have the potential to improve the experience of teaching and learning engineering in our College.
All College of Engineering faculty are welcome to apply. For more details regarding the grants and how to apply, please follow the link below. The application deadline is Friday, September 5. Please direct any questions to Drs. John Morelock (john.morelock@uga.edu) and John Aliu (john.aliu@uga.edu).
